Since we mentioned in the last post that we are selling bits of paper with the Living the American Green Logo, we thought we would let you in on what that might look like.

Ltag Logo

The letters, and in a sense, the entire Ethos of the project is nestled in the leafy branches of the acacia tree, famous for its many uses in medicine and cosmetics, as well as for its strength and resilience. The graceful spreading tree invokes a sense of the community, the brotherhood of the Americana, growing from a central strength and branching out into a supportive network of love.

This is, of course, all built on top of the Grill of an SUV. ‘Cause… come on. What a sweet Grill.

This may suprise many (read: all) of you, but the American Green Institute is looking for new (read: any) ways to raise funds for our documentary project.  While we are willing to don a pair of pin-striped slacks now and again and small-talk with men and women whose pockets are deeper than our own, we are looking at new ways to supplement this technique.  And, without further ado, we bring you: the Rock Pocket.

We want to sell ourselves. To you. Here’s how it goes.  We are struggling artists, trying to get our word out there and educate/make a difference/have fun.  You (hopefully) support us in this endeavor, as you are people who support education, making a difference, and having fun.  So we’re going to put up for sale shares in the American Green Institute (price yet to be determined). You give us money in exchange for a stake in our company and film. If we get big and make money, you make money proportional to what you put in at the beginning. Plus, we’ll give you a neat sheet of paper with our logo on it that you can hang on your wall, send as a gift, stockpile in your attic, etc.

So, give us your feedback. Tell us what you think. Would you buy us, if you could?

Today is Blog Action day, with the happy topic of environmentalism. Thats right! We aren’t just passively blogging about nothing, were passively blogging about nothing IN UNISON! (editorial shout out: PGP and JES)

Anyway, in celebration of this glorious web communal action, we thought we would post something. We know this Video is old, but its worth looking at again because of its inherent similarities and differences with what we at American Green are working on. Plus, we haven’t had any time to create more of our own stuff.
Some stuff to know about this video:

  1. There are more then 350 PAGES of comments on the Youtube page of this video. Thats a lot of comments.
  2. When you read through these comments, you discover that 4/5ths of them say one of two things: Al Gore is stupid and global warming doesn’t exist, or George Bush is MORE stupid, and global warming DOES exist. It’s exhausting, to say the least.
  3. It was produced by an advertising agency (or at least someone with a IP address from an ad agency) that works for Exxon/Mobile. Just Sayin.

So, give it a little watch. On the surface, it appears to be what we are all about: humor to make a point, with a call to… wait. A call to what, exactly?

The American Green institute just got an early look at Break Through: The Death of Environmentalism to the Politics of Possibility.

Its a new book from these two guys who have gotten themselves tagged as “The Bad Boys of Environmentalism.” Their thesis? That the Environmental movement is dead. Further, Ted Nordhaus and Michael Shellenberger write that it killed itself, with a unique brand of nature worship and negative campaigning. Now, the American Green institute didn’t realize that the Environmental movement was dead. We just thought, you know.. that it was wounded. Maybe.. bleeding heavily. But they promised big things, positive change! A… well… A Break Through!

Al Gore spent about 45 minutes of An Inconvenient Truth discussing it, Leo’s 11th Hour made some great points about it at the conclusion of the film, but we feel that it is high time for positive change to become the focus of the environmental movement, not the post script.  We see why Gore and Leo feel the need to scare the bejeezus out of the world population. I mean, the global issues are a tad scary.  This said, practically, the rhetoric of death and the reliance on fear to make people adopt “green” measures is ridiculous. Telling them that unless they change their oil-gobbling ways, their puppies are going to die in a monsoon and their ice cream is going to turn to sewagey ooze will not inspire change, it will inspire hibernation.  Telling people that their ice cream will taste better and their puppies will live longer if they embrace green alternatives, now that’s the way to get people’s attention.  And the best thing about it? It’s not a lie!  Adopting green measures in all aspects of our life can save money, improve quality of life, and…oh yeah…save the earth.  So let’s tell people!

Evan A. Variano, Assistant Professor of Environmentalism at UC Berkeley, is trying to spread the word.  He states, “Rather than saying ‘This decade is the last possible moment that we can avert climate disaster’ we could say ‘This decade is the first possible moment that we have the technology, understanding, and willpower to build a more secure foundation for our lives.’ In doing so, any effects of climate change, plus a host of unknown future challenges, will be more managable, and the debate about whether climate change is a dire emergency or a negative fantasy will cease.”

This point of view is one gaining some speed in the issue of environmental change, and we’re here to help give it a huge push forward.  Ready…1….2….3….

UPDATE: the new trailer is up and running.  Better quality!  Better lighting!  Special Thanks to Alex Keift, the Internet, and QT pro.

Check out the new State-of-the-art documentary from our friends at the Living the American Green institute. If you haven’t done so before, you might want to look at the 11th Hour trailer posted below. You know… so you have a context of the scientific principles we are working with here.
